Vaginismus
Vaginismus is when the vagina suddenly contracts (involuntary contraction of pelvic muscles)
When you try to insert something into it. It can be painful and upsetting.
It can be treated
Causes:
- Fear that your vagina is small
- Bad sexual experience
- Unpleasant examination
- Belief that sex is shameful and wrong
- Underlying medical condition
Symptoms:
- Discomfort or pain during vaginal penetration
- Inability to have sex or pelvic examination
- Painful intercourse
Treatment options:
- Medications / lubricants / topical creams
- Dilatation therapy
- Sex therapy
- Treatment under anaesthesia
- Botox/laser treatments
